SENTENCE       [वाक्य]

Definition: A sentence is a group of words which makes a complete sense.

Or

The group of words which make a complete sense is called ‘Sentence.’

परिभाषा : शब्द या शब्दों का ऐसा समूह जिससे पूर्ण भाव व्यक्त होता है उसे ‘वाक्य’ कहते है|

Sentence

Types of Sentence: There are five types of sentence-

i) Assertive Sentence – कथनात्मक वाक्य

ii) Interrogative Sentence – प्रश्नवाचक वाक्य

iii) Imperative Sentence – आज्ञा-प्रर्थानावाची वाक्य

iv) Exclamatory Sentence – आश्चर्यबोधक वाक्य

v) Optative Sentence – इच्छाबोधक वाक्य

i) Assertive Sentence – Assertive sentence denotes true or false statements.

कथनात्मक वाक्य से सत्य या असत्य कथन का बोध होता है|

Example: He goes to play.

                   You don’t know how to swim.

Thus, an assertive sentence has two types –

a) Affirmative Sentence - स्वीकारात्मक वाक्य

b) Negative Sentence – नकारात्मक वाक्य

Definition - a) Affirmative sentence denotes true statements.

Example- I write a letter.

b) A negative sentence denotes false statements.

Example- I don’t write a letter.
